The Newman Center project is a new state of the art facility, for the Buffalo Catholic Diocese. Before the project the Catholic Campus Ministries for UB was held in available classroom space on campus. With the new building daily mass, outreach, student support, and activities now have a home on the University. The site was a virgin 10 acre parcel of land. A coordinated effort for development was required between the NYS DEC, US Army Corps of Engineers, and Town of Amherst due to portions of property delineated as US Wetland Areas and 100 Year Flood Plain, tied to the Ellicott Creek waterway. The project utilized NYS ERDA incentives in regards to day lighting controls, light fixtures, and heating & cooling systems; improving efficiencies above Building Code requirements.
